Phil Murphy announced Tuesday that amusement and water parks could reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Murphy said playgrounds, amusement parks and water parks can reopen on July 2, just in time for the Fourth of July holiday.
That includes the amusement rides at Casino Pier and Breakwater Beach.
'We are SO excited to finally announce that the Governor has allowed Amusement Parks and Waterparks to open,' a message posted by Casino Pier on its Facebook page said. 'We know everyone is anxious to come play and to also know what the safety guidelines and restrictions will be when you come to visit.'
Murphy said those guidelines would be issued shortly. He said that in addition to reopening the amusement rides and water parks, he would announce the reopening of arcades on Wednesday. Read more: NJ Coronavirus Updates: Here's What You Need To Know
These conditions for reopening were announced Tuesday:
- The parks must reopen at 50 percent capacity, and specific health guidance is being finalized.
- Face coverings will be required of staff and attendees 'where practicable.'
- Rides will be configured so that they are 6 feet apart between groups, and they must be disinfected.
- Distance markers must be placed.
'The rides will be in operation, but moreover, we want everyone to enjoy their time responsibly,' Murphy said.
Casino Pier previously had posted some of the measures it plans to take, including having its employees wearing masks in every place where it's practical; checking the temperatures of every guest, and requiring people to use hand sanitizer before boarding rides. Hand sanitizer dispenser will be located throughout Casino Pier, and visitors will be encouraged to use hand sanitizer frequently and prior to participating in any ride, slide, attraction, playing any game, using any equipment, or walking around the properties where common touch areas are present.
